Hi, I’m Emily.
As an instructional designer…
I am passionate about creating meaningful learning experiences and solutions that close performance gaps and help people build the skills and knowledge they need to be successful.
I have 9 years of experience with my background in education conducting needs analyses and designing, developing, facilitating, and evaluating effective courses for diverse audiences to address specific performance gaps.
I have a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction and in-depth knowledge of adult learning theory and ID models, including ADDIE, Bloom’s Taxonomy, Backward Design, and the Kirkpatrick Model.
I have taken 30+ courses to grow and strengthen industry-related skills and am currently working toward my Instructional Design and Online Learning developer certificate.
Experience and Skills
I’ve used the ADDIE framework for both in-person and virtual learning environments to:
Conduct needs analyses to understand performance gaps and the abilities and needs of learners
Design outcome-focused, objective-aligned learning experiences (courses, content, activities and assessments) that support team and organization goals
Plan, organize and develop multiple courses and learning projects effectively and simultaneously from start to end, both independently and with cross-disciplinary teams, meeting deadlines and expectations
Facilitate training to learners through appealing, high-impact presentations and engaging learning material using multiple technology platforms and interactive strategies
Collect data to evaluate whether performance goals and learning objectives were met, as well as identify and address any improvements needed in the course design or implementation process
Toolkit
While I always consider all options available to develop or improve the courses and projects I work on, I’m currently familiar with the following:
Communication, Collaboration & Productivity: Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Asana, Trello
Learning Management Systems: Google Classroom
Graphic Design: Canva, MS PowerPoint
Authoring Tools: Articulate Storyline and Rise
Video Recording & Editing: Camtasia, Screencast-o-Matic
Dedicated Learner
As a “lifelong learner” (I’m nerdy for writing that, I know), I’ve always loved to immerse myself into topics of interest, absorbing the information however I can.
Luckily, there are so many resources available to grow from and build skills as an instructional designer.
LinkedIn Learning: I’ve taken 30+ courses on ID-related topics, such as Practical Success Metrics in Your Training Program, Working with SMEs, and the Becoming an Instructional Designer Learning Path
(Check out my LinkedIn profile to see the full list.)Podcasts: Become an IDOL, Dr. Luke Hobson Podcast, Leading Learning, the eLearning Coach
Interviews: So many amazing IDs I’ve networked with via LinkedIn have happily answered my many questions about best practices and suggestions for additional resources to explore
IDOL courses Academy: I enrolled in this trade school for Instructional Designers and Online Learning developers to further develop and strengthen my ID knowledge, skills, and abilities
